Will your XGS-PON link work?

Enter your fiber route and get the attenuation budget for downstream and upstream, with what to change if it does not fit.

How it works

  1. Describe the route

Fiber length, splitters, splices and connectors. Start from an example and change what differs.

  2. Get a clear answer

PonCalc checks downstream and upstream against the optics, and tells you how much margin you have, or what to change.

  3. Save, share or report

Keep projects in your browser or your account, share a read-only link, or download a PDF for the customer.

What is an attenuation budget?

Light loses power on its way through the fiber network. Every kilometre of fiber, every splice, every connector and above all every splitter takes a share. The sum is the total attenuation, measured in dB.

The optics set the limits. The transmitter sends at a known power, and the receiver needs the signal to arrive within a window: not weaker than its sensitivity, and not stronger than its overload limit. The attenuation budget is how much loss fits between them.

A link works when the received power lands inside that window in both directions, with a safety margin left for ageing and repairs. That is exactly what PonCalc checks.

Reports you can hand over

Every calculation can be downloaded as a PDF with the route, all ONT paths, both directions, the margins and the assumptions behind them. Ready to attach to an offer or a handover.

Optical values come from the ITU-T XGS-PON recommendations and documented equipment data. About the calculations
